Buying Branston Pickle

Branston Pickle is the perfect condiment made in the UK by Crosse and Blackwell. Branston Pickle has been made and sold in England since 1922.

Branston PickleBranston Pickle is chutney made from a variety of diced vegetables which include carrots, swede, onion, cauliflower and gherkins. These vegetables are then pickled and mixed with a sauce made from tomatoes, vinegar, apples and dates combined with spices such as mustard, cayenne pepper, coriander, garlic, cinnamon, pepper and cloves. The result of these ingredients equals the tasty, versatile Branston Pickle.

We do have chutneys available to buy in the USA (America) but nothing as great as Branstons. I like to eat it along with a chicken salad to add a bit of texture and spice. Its great with a cheese sandwich, yes just cheese without all the extra vegetables added. Branston pickle adds moisture and vegetables in one.

In the UK Branston Pickle is nearly always part of a ploughman's lunch. A ploughman's lunch is a vegetarian meal made up of cheese, crusty bread, pickled onions and other salad like items. This is a very popular traditional English pub meal especially on a hot day as all the items on the plate are cold. A great menu option for a hot day in an English beer garden.

Branston Pickle is also low in fat. Unlike other sandwich fillers or spreads it's made from vegetables and spices as described above, therefore it doesn't contain fat like mayonnaise and oils.

Branston Pickle is also available in a small chunks variety. The vegetables are chopped into smaller pieces if you prefer it that way. You can also buy Branston Pickle in different size jars depending on how quickly you go through it and as with everything sold in bulk it works out less expensive to buy bigger.
